What is CarracK?
Carracks are sailing ships developed in the 15th century and are one of the most representative types of ships of the Age of Discovery.
Developed with the assumption of long-distance voyages in mind, it had a large body that could maintain stability even in the high waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and a spacious hold suitable for mass transport. Furthermore, with ample space for carrying crew, supplies, and cargo, it was well-suited as a trading ship, and its high cargo and supply carrying capacity allowed it to extend its voyages and select more efficient routes with fewer port calls.
It also had excellent sailing performance, and the ability to use a combination of four sails gave it great flexibility in choosing the appropriate angle for the wind.The sails on the stern and bow contributed to improved maneuverability, and the triangular sails made it possible to sail into headwinds and even propel the ship in storms.
Columbus's Santa Maria and Magellan's Victoria were both Carrack ships, and were the ships that played a leading role in pioneering the first global sea routes for mankind.
